Each piece is a testament to the beauty of the unexpected.
“None of my works are AI or computer-generated; instead, they emerge from the realms of digital photography, found art, and accidental subject matter. Through a meticulous process of chance-based, multi-layered digital collage, I create immersive visual narratives that invite viewers to explore an interplay of form and texture.”
The Aleatoric Process
Fascinated by the great artists of the early 20th century- the Surrealists, the Dada Movement and particularly those who used chance in the commission of their works throughout history- fine art photographer J. Coleman Miller has created a new twist on aleatoric composition. Capturing the swirling colors of Koi and the reflections that dance on the rippling surface of a clear pond, slow moving wafts of smoke, intricate rock formations and crumpled metal, magical images and new fantasies come to life.
“Magicians often use metaphorical smoke and mirrors to conceal the expected. Miller's magic often uses actual smoke and mirrors to reveal the unexpected.”

Chance Encounters
“These works convey a deep sense of emotional connection, touching viewers with engaging, dramatic images and unearthing darker, ghostly scenes as though from a childhood dream.”

Accidents, try to change them - it's impossible! The accidental reveals man. -Pablo Picasso
“Somewhere between representation and abstraction, J. Coleman Miller finds a new kind of surrealist expressionism. Eerie aqueous faces of angst and passion hidden within diaphanous veils of liquid flesh. Floral fluids teeming with twisted crickets. Tortured spirits embroiled in gaseous infernos. Nebulous glacial prehistoria infected with fractal relfections and vitreous pathogens. Sultry vaporous nymphs smoldering in the molten pools of aleatoric magma from which the earliest signs of art emerged. The mysterious images of J. Coleman Miller evoke wonder and delight without allowing us to fall victim to our usual inner censors who squelch the child in us and cast judgement based on what is known. Miller’s art invites us to see what we don’t yet believe exists.”
